The Celebration...

Celebrate festivals as they fall. For me, one fell on top of the other and the decisive factor was that I was able to complete another decade of my life. It didn't and doesn't stay quiet in my head. Quite the opposite.

'Live is Life - my life with a global hit' is the title of my autobiography. It's self-explanatory and I took my milestone birthday as an opportunity to look back, remember and - lo and behold - bring forgotten things back to light. In the course of the research and especially during the writing process, things went haywire in my head. One thing overtook the other. The biographical texts for the book immediately sparked ideas for songs. That's right: they popped up. Nothing can be channeled, the song ideas just pop up and so it goes without interruption. Then there were all the songs that had been written for a while but never got off the ground, simply because Opus was always in the front row and time was racing against us. I've released two solo albums in recent years: 2008's "Skyland" and 2016's "Time Flies..." Now I think that now, this year, is the right time to complete the trio: 2025 "The Celebration". My celebration. My life. My doing. I worked on it for a whole year, parallel to the book, and recognizing how one thing flowed into the other, how they complemented each other, how I found myself one hundred percent there and there musically and in terms of content, right down to the covers, that drove me creatively and never let me rest. Yes, that was and is the real celebration for me.

First of all: No, 'The Celebration' is not a best-of collection. It is a Sunny Pfleger. My friends from Opus gave me this nickname over forty years ago. They thought I was the one with the sunny disposition. My glasses are always half full. Hence the Sunny. I'm Ewald away from the music, at home, in private. Also positive, not a grump, just to be clear! I don't have two faces. Both Sunny and Ewald, both are me, but here now, as a musician, lyricist, author, producer... take your pick, I've done all that over the years, 'The Celebration' is Sunny Pfleger and my new album consists of two parts: On the one hand, new tracks and on the other, very successful live recordings, also with songs by me. The Celebration - is one, my celebration! My life printed as a book, more new songs from me and live memories. A kind of interim balance of Sunny Pfleger over which my motto always hovers and will continue to hover: Live is Life!

With a little help from my friends. Friends and colleagues such as the Schick Sisters, Opus (yes, Opus and all of them!), the Opus Band, Monika 'The Voice' Ballwein, the sadly deceased Michael Vatter, Paul my son with Kurt Gober on the handpans, the two who will also be accompanying me musically on the upcoming "Musik & Talk" tour (hosted by Uli Brée) through Austria. Also on board is Christian Kardeis, who wrote some string orchestra arrangements and, last but not least, Christian Kolonovits, who not only arranged the symphonic orchestra for "Fanfarian", but also takes on a piano duet with my Stratocaster on this jointly composed instrumental track! And for fans of technical listening pleasure, there's another treat: as a bonus track on the album, there's a version of "Live is life" mixed in Dolby Atmos, which our digital distribution company "Rebeat" gave us as a gift to mark "40 years of Live is Life". The track will also be released as an Opus single. The other eleven songs are also available digitally in Dolby Atmos!
